DDPM reports flooding in 7 provinces, urgently resolving the situation and helping the people. At 09.00 hrs., the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation reported that there was a flood situation in 7 provinces: Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Phrae, Phetchabun, Udon Thani and Phuket, totaling 43 districts, 187 sub-districts, 1,069 villages, with 21,971 households affected. Coordinating with the area to urgently resolve the situation and provide assistance to the people. Mr. Chaiwat Junthiraphong, Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), revealed that from the influence of the moderate monsoon trough across the upper North and the upper Northeast, entering the low-pressure cell in the upper part of Vietnam and the Gulf of Tonkin, along with the southwest monsoon still covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand, while there are intersecting winds of the southeast and southwest winds at the upper level covering the Northeast. Between 16 - 24 August 2 024, there was a situation of flash floods and forest runoff in 11 provinces: Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Phayao, Nan, Lampang, Phrae, Phetchabun, Udon Thani, Rayong, Phuket and Yala, a total of 62 districts, 255 sub-districts, 1,454 villages, 30,807 households were affected, 10 people died, 19 people were injured. Currently (data as of 24 August 2024), the situation still exists in 7 provinces, a total of 43 districts, 187 sub-districts, 1,069 villages, 21,971 households were affected, as follows: 1) Chiang Rai: Flooding occurred in 11 districts: Wiang Chai, Chiang Saen, Pa Daet, Phaya Mengrai, Mae Sai, Mae Chan, Thoeng, Chiang Khong, Khun Tan, Wiang Kaen, and Wiang Pa Pao, totaling 33 sub-districts, 231 villages, affecting 5,381 households. Water levels have decreased. 2) Phayao: Flooding occurred in 6 districts: Pong, Chiang Muan, Dok Kham Tai, Phu Sang, Mueang, and Chiang Kham, totaling 40 sub-districts, 313 villages, affecting 3,500 households. Water levels have decreased. 3) Nan: Flooding occurred in 11 districts: Chaloem Phra Kiat, Wiang Sa, Na Noi, Chiang Klang, Thung Chang, Ban Luang, Tha Wang Pha, Pua, Phu Phiang, Mueang, and Bo Kluea, totaling 56 sub-districts, 283 villages, affecting 10,517 households. Water levels have decreased. 4) Phrae: Flooding occurred in 5 districts: Rong Kwang, Song, Mueang, Sung Men, and Nong Muang Khai, totaling 23 sub-districts, 102 villages, affecting 383 households. Water levels have decreased. 5) Phetchabun: Flooding occurred in 3 districts: Wang Pong, Chon Daen, and Mueang, including 6 sub-districts and 22 villages, affecting 1,726 households. Water levels have decreased. 6) Udon Thani: Flooding occurred in 6 districts: Mueang, Chai Wan, Ku Kaew, Phen, Nong Han, and Prachak, totaling 26 sub-districts and 109 villages. 255 households were affected. Water levels have decreased. 7) Phuket: Flooding and landslides occurred in Muang District, including 3 sub-districts and 9 villages, affecting 209 households, resulting in 10 deaths and 19 injuries. The situation has impro ved. Overview of the situation: Water levels are decreasing in all areas. For solving problems and providing assistance to people affected by the flood, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, through the Provincial Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, has coordinated with provinces, local administrative organizations, and relevant agencies to go to the area to help those affected and solve their problems urgently. They have mobilized operational personnel and disaster machinery, such as long-distance water pumps, water pumps, disaster relief vehicles, and drinking water production vehicles, to solve problems, quickly drain water, alleviate the suffering of people affected by the disaster situation, and produce clean drinking water to distribute to those affected. For areas where the situation has improved, they have mobilized personnel to restore the affected areas to return to normal as soon as possible so that people can return to their normal lives as soon as possible. They have also arranged for personnel to survey and compile an inventory of damages in order to provide assistance in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Finance.
