Bangkok: The Ministry of Public Health reports that recent flooding across eight southern provinces has resulted in 170 deaths. Songkhla Province suffered the highest number of fatalities, with a total of 131 deaths. Additionally, 102 individuals were reported injured due to the floods.
According to Thai News Agency, the Ministry of Public Health provided a detailed breakdown of the casualties. Songkhla reported the highest death toll with 131 fatalities, followed by Nakhon Si Thammarat with 10, Pattani with 9, Satun and Yala with 5 each, Phatthalung and Narathiwat with 4 each, and Trang with 2.
Dr. Sakda Alpach, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Health, offered further details on the situation in Songkhla Province. He clarified that the 131 deaths in Songkhla include 55 bodies held at Hat Yai Hospital from the start of the incident, with an additional 11 deaths attributed to normal illnesses during the flooding. This brings the confirmed fatalities directly related to the flooding in Hat Yai to 65. Efforts are ongoing to verify the circumstances and identities of the deceased.
When questioned about the number of flood-related deaths in Hat Yai, Songkhla Province, Dr. Sakda confirmed that indeed 65 individuals died due to the flooding.
