Caracas: The death toll from the Venezuela earthquake has reached over 6,100, prompting the government to urgently inspect more than 40,000 buildings and distribute replacement housing to those affected.
According to Thai News Agency, the latest developments following the two powerful earthquakes in Venezuela have been detailed by Venezuelan National Assembly President Jorge Rodrguez. The 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes that struck on June 24, 2026, have resulted in a death toll of 6,125. In addition, 6,462 individuals have been rescued, while 60,992 remain hospitalized across the nation.
Venezuelan authorities are actively accelerating relief efforts, having already delivered 287 homes to families impacted by the disaster. Officials have assessed the damage to over 43,679 buildings nationwide, employing a color-coded safety assessment system to categorize the structural integrity of these buildings. Green denotes safe occupancy, yellow indicates restricted access, and red signifies a high risk that necessitates future demolition.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located in the western state of Yaragui and the central state of Laguera, causing significant damage to both life and property. Recovery efforts are ongoing as authorities work diligently to address the aftermath of the disaster.
