Bangkok: Two female MPs from the Democrat Party made a notable statement during a debate on the Election Commission's report by wearing shirts emblazoned with the number "7-157". This symbolic gesture occurred after the Election Commission decided not to proceed with a lawsuit against Bhumjaithai Party leaders concerning the Senate collusion case.
According to Thai News Agency, during a House of Representatives meeting chaired by Ms. Mallika Chiraphanvanich, the First Deputy Speaker, the agenda included reviewing the Election Commission (EC)'s performance report for fiscal years 2024 and 2025. Mr. Saweang Boonmee, Secretary-General of the EC, alongside his team, presented this report to the Parliament.
Reporters noted that Democrat Party MPs, specifically Radklao Intawong Suwannakiri and Kardee Leowpairoj, participated in the meeting wearing white t-shirts with "7-157" inscribed. The numbers are understood to hold significant meaning, with 157 referring to Section 157 of the Criminal Code and 7 symbolizing the seven Election Commission members authorized to vote on the related case. This protest follows the EC's decision not to forward the Bhumjaithai Party leaders' indictment to the Supreme Court for Election Cases, a decision that has sparked criticism from certain quarters.
