Hat yai: The Democrat Party initiated its inaugural seminar in Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province, to outline its strategy for the southern region. Abhisit Vejjajiva is leading this event from July 11-13, focusing on enhancing the party's approach for the southern region and preparing for the 2/69 parliamentary session. He is also scheduled to visit the Khlong Rian flood control reservoir, advocating for prompt government action on repairs, before attending the "Thai Fight Songkhla."
According to Thai News Agency, the seminar is strategically timed with the parliamentary recess, facilitating a deep dive into flood recovery and prevention plans for Hat Yai, alongside economic stimulation strategies for the south. On July 11, 2026, party MPs visited the crucial Khlong Rian reservoir, a pivotal site for managing runoff and preventing floods in Hat Yai's economic zone.
Tomorrow, Mr. Abhisit will officially kick off the seminar, collecting insights on flood management and economic plans. Subsequently, Mr. Chaiwut Bannawat, the party's secretary-general, will present the party's strategic direction and legislative agenda for the upcoming parliamentary session. Mr. Sathit Wongnongteuy, the party's list MP and chairman, will then wrap up the seminar.
The House of Representatives' second ordinary session of 2026 includes a significant agenda item: the opposition parties are set to introduce a no-confidence debate against Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's government. The last debate of this nature occurred during former Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra's tenure in early 2025, before Anutin's rise to power later that year.
After the seminar, Mr. Abhisit plans to lead the party's MPs to the "Thai Fight Songkhla" event, celebrating His Majesty the King's 74th birthday, at Tinsulanon Stadium in Songkhla Province. The delegation will return to Bangkok on July 13, 2026.
