Phuket: The Department of Highways has successfully completed the construction and enhancement of the last four-lane segment of Highway 4030 in Phuket, specifically designed to address dangerous curves and establish a safe and sustainable tourist route.
According to Thai News Agency, the Songkhla Construction Center and the Bridge Construction and Rehabilitation Center 4 (Nakhon Si Thammarat) spearheaded the project, which involved the development of Highway No. 4030, Thalang - Hat Rawai section, spanning from km 16+950 to km 18+200 in Kathu District, Phuket Province. The road has been upgraded from a two-lane to a four-lane highway, now available for public and tourist use to ensure convenient and efficient travel.
Mr. Piyapong Chiwatnakulpaisan, Director-General of the Department of Highways, stated that the department is committed to enhancing the highway network in Phuket to accommodate the city's and tourism sector's ongoing growth. Highway No. 4030 serves as a key tourist route, connecting Thep Krasattri Road (Highway No. 402) with several popular beaches, culminating at the Rawai intersection.
The original road section from km 16+950 to km 18+200 faced challenges due to its two-lane configuration, marked by frequent curves and increasing traffic, leading to traveler inconvenience and accidents. To resolve these issues, the Department of Highways expedited the improvement of this highway section, completing what is referred to as the "final piece of the four-lane jigsaw puzzle," aimed at reducing congestion and enhancing driving safety.
The project involved constructing a high-standard four-lane highway with a median and an efficient drainage system. A new, wider 30-meter concrete bridge replaced the old bridge at km 17+918 to facilitate smoother traffic flow. Safety measures, including traffic signs and lighting systems, were installed in compliance with Road Safety standards to minimize accidents at previously hazardous locations.
This development is anticipated to decrease travel time between Thalang District and Rawai Beach, ease congestion on main roads, and enhance the transportation experience for tourists in Phuket. The project is expected to be a significant driver for regional economic growth and improve the quality of life for residents.
The Department of Highways remains dedicated to ensuring all highways are safe and convenient for users. Road users are urged to adhere to traffic laws and drive cautiously.
