Department of Internal Trade Accelerates Gold Certification for Fuel Dispensers

Bangkok: The Department of Internal Trade is advancing its initiative to enhance fuel dispenser standards by awarding the prestigious gold-colored "Standard Fuel Dispenser" symbol to qualifying gas stations. The initiative, now in its second consecutive year, aims to expand the number of stations receiving this recognition to 700 by 2026, ensuring public trust in receiving the correct and fair amount of fuel.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Wittayakorn Maneenet, Director-General of the Department, inspected fuel dispenser volume meters and awarded the "Fuel Dispenser Verified" gold-level certification to Bangchak and PTT stations on Vibhavadi-Rangsit Road. This initiative is designed to reassure the public about the accuracy and fairness of their fuel transactions. The gold certification is the highest available, awarded to stations meeting the criteria for two consecutive years. This includes regular fuel dispenser testing, using 5-liter measuring tanks calibrated to regulations, and staff trained by the Department of Internal Trade. This certification reflects the station's capability to maintain dispenser standards autonomously, alongside official inspections.

The 'Fuel Dispenser Verified' project, a collaboration between the government and oil retailers, seeks to upgrade regulatory standards for fuel dispensers. Currently, 12 companies are involved, including PTT Oil and Retail Business Public Company Limited, Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited, PTG Energy Public Company Limited, Shell Thailand Limited, and others.

At present, 7,068 major brand gas stations across the nation have registered for the project, out of a total of 8,234, which accounts for 85.84% of the target set for 2026. Of these, 2,091 stations have earned the blue symbol, 4,551 the silver symbol, and 426 the gold symbol. This participation indicates active cooperation among operators in improving service standards. The Department of Internal Trade emphasizes that achieving each symbol level requires adherence to specific criteria, including regular fuel dispenser testing, calibrated measuring tanks, trained personnel, and compliance with weights and measures laws. Non-compliance results in immediate expulsion from the project.
