Department of Internal Trade’s Initiative Saves Thousands in Medical Costs

Bangkok: The Department of Internal Trade inspected the “Healthy Body, Comfortable Wallet” project at Rama 9 Hospital and participating pharmacies. The Director-General of the Department of Internal Trade saved 9,300 baht in expenses after undergoing examinations and treatment.

According to Thai News Agency, the Department of Internal Trade has launched an online system that allows the public to compare drug prices and medical service fees across private hospitals. This system aims to assist users in checking unit price ranges and comparing costs nationwide via the Department’s website.

Mr. Witthayakon Maneenet, Director-General of the Department of Internal Trade, personally tested the system at Rama 9 Hospital. After a physical examination, he opted to purchase medications outside participating FDA program stores for cost-effectiveness. He received guidance from the doctor on which medications could be bought externally and obtained a list of generic alternatives. He then purchased the medications at nearby pharmacies, resulting in a significant cost saving compared to the hospital’s prices.

Dr. Somchai Leelasiriwong, advisor to the director of Rama 9 Hospital, expressed the hospital’s commitment to the “Sukkai Sabai Paka” project. He emphasized that the initiative helps reduce patient expenses while potentially increasing patient visits due to the hospital’s reputable services at more affordable prices.
