Department of Thai Traditional Medicine and Fine Arts Department Win Prestigious Platinum Award at Thailand Research Expo 2026

Bangkok: The National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, celebrated the achievements of Thai researchers at the Thailand Research Expo 2026 Award ceremony held at the Bangkok Convention Center. The highlight of the event was the awarding of the Platinum Award 2569 to the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine, alongside the Fine Arts Department, for their exemplary contributions to national research and innovation. According to Thai News Agency, the Platinum Award recipients were honored with royal trophies, presented by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, and were also awarded cash prizes and certificates. The ceremony was presided over by Dr. Wiparat Dee-ong, Director of the NRCT, who emphasized the event's significance in showcasing the nation's research capabilities. With over 1,000 projects on display, the Expo aimed to elevate the standards of research communication and practical application, dr awing interest from both local and international attendees. Dr. Wiparat Dee-ong highlighted that the Expo reflects the achievements of Thailand's research and innovation system, recognizing organizations that excel in showcasing research. This year, the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine was lauded for its work on enhancing the Thai Kratom value chain and developing innovative herbal formulations from Kratom to aid in alcohol treatment within the public health system. Silpakorn University was also commended for its innovative synthesis of biodegradable melanin fibers, aligning with the Royal Initiative on land management. The event also saw the presentation of four Gold Awards by the Prime Minister for projects including the upgrading of the Thai rubber industry and cultural space management to enhance community markets. Six Silver Awards were given by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, recognizing projects like the 'Yaan Yao Mo del' for social innovation and the 'Smart Salinity System for Songkhla Lake'. Bronze Awards were distributed to eight institutions, with trophies presented by both the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, and the Director of the NRCT. In addition, eighteen institutions received honorable mention awards, reflecting the Expo's wide-reaching recognition of Thai research excellence. The NRCT underscored the importance of this event in inspiring high-quality research and innovation, fostering knowledge for national development, and enhancing competitiveness. The Thailand Research Expo 2026 Award serves as a testament to the potential of Thai researchers in contributing to the nation's development across various dimensions, reinforcing the Expo's role as a key platform for connecting research to practical applications and driving sustainable development through science and innovation.
