Deputy Government Spokesperson Refutes Claims of Fear Over No-Confidence Debate

Bangkok:The deputy government spokesperson has addressed recent claims made by Ms. Pakamon Nunanan regarding the government's stance on the no-confidence debate. The spokesperson clarified that the lack of agreement on a debate schedule does not indicate the government's fear of scrutiny.

According to Thai News Agency, the deputy spokesperson highlighted that the Prime Minister has reassigned the duties of 18 ministers to ensure they are prepared to provide detailed explanations during the debate. The spokesperson also challenged those who suggested the government consulted an astrologer for the debate date, urging them to present evidence to support their claims.

Ms. Lalida Periswiwatana, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, emphasized that the government is prepared to engage in the debate and respects the opposition's right to scrutinize. She noted that the ministers have adjusted their schedules, including moving the Cabinet meeting to allow more time for the debate.

The spokesperson further explained that the disagreement over the debate's timeframe should not be seen as the government avoiding scrutiny. She stated that debates require mutual agreement on timing, rather than unilateral decisions.

Regarding accusations about setting the debate date based on auspicious dates, Ms. Lalida urged for evidence rather than speculation. She concluded by expressing the government's willingness to negotiate and ensure that the ministers provide clear answers to the parliament, focusing on policy and administration scrutiny rather than accusations.
