Bangkok: The deputy inspector of Sai Mai Police Station has admitted ownership of a firearm that was seized from a Chinese national. He clarified that the weapon was purchased with his personal funds and was not issued by the government. Despite the situation, the officer remains active in his duties at the Sai Mai Police Station, while the investigation moves forward under the directives of the Bangkok Metropolitan Police Command.
According to Thai News Agency, high-ranking police officials at Sai Mai Police Station confirmed the deputy inspector's admission concerning the firearm. The senior officer stated that the gun was legally acquired as a personal weapon through the police welfare program, as documented in the gun registration certificate (P.4). The deputy inspector explained that he had previously pawned the weapon, following routine practice, but was unaware of how it ended up in the possession of the young Chinese national.
The deputy inspector continues to fulfill his responsibilities at Sai Mai Police Station without any special orders or disciplinary action against him. Nevertheless, he is required to provide accurate information to the fact-finding committee of the Bangkok Metropolitan Police Command as part of the ongoing investigation.
On the morning of the incident, the atmosphere at Son Sai Mai was notably quiet, attributed to the public holiday. When inquiries were made regarding the police inspector's status, the officer on duty mentioned that the inspector was not scheduled to work that day.
