Bangkok: Deputy Minister of Transport Phatarapong Phatprasit has directed the Department of Highways and the Department of Rural Roads to mobilize resources urgently to restore roads in Nan Province that have been impaired by severe flooding. In tandem, Prime Minister Phatarapong has prioritized safety and is preparing to visit the region to assess the situation, particularly focusing on damaged bridges in Pua, underscoring the need for rapid assistance.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phatprasit has tasked the Department of Highways (DOH) and the Department of Rural Roads (DRR) with deploying machinery, personnel, and equipment to aid in the restoration of transportation routes affected by flooding and landslides. This initiative aims to provide prompt assistance to affected residents, ensuring that both major and minor roads are monitored closely, especially in areas susceptible to flooding. The preparation involves having heavy machinery such as trucks, excavators, loaders, and tools ready for immediate deployment to clear roads and drain water.
Furthermore, the Department of Airports (DOA) has been instructed to facilitate safe transportation for passengers traveling to and from Nan Province via Nan Nakhon Airport and other nearby airports. The Deputy Minister emphasized the urgency of assisting the public quickly, focusing on the restoration of major transportation routes and those connecting communities.
In coordination with local administrative organizations and relevant agencies, the Department of Highways and the Department of Rural Roads will continuously monitor water levels and weather conditions to provide timely warnings and manage routes effectively. The Deputy Minister is set to visit Pua District in Nan Province shortly to inspect the damage to roads and bridges, aiming to alleviate the challenges faced by the affected population.
