Deputy Prime Minister Addresses Uten Thawai College Relocation Conflict

Accra:Government House Mr. Yotsanu Wongsawat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, has scheduled a meeting with Uten Thawai College on October 22nd to address the ongoing issue regarding the relocation of the school. This follows a petition from students at Rajamangala University of Technology Eastern, Uthenthawai Campus, who opposed the move and demanded a resolution within three days.

According to Thai News Agency, the conflict originated last September between Rajamangala University of Technology Eastern's Uthenthawai Campus and Pathumwan Institute of Technology. In response, Mr. Yotsanan ordered both institutions to conduct online classes for 90 days. He has maintained communication with student representatives and rectors, holding monthly meetings to minimize the impact on students' education.

Mr. Yotchanan also addressed compensation for students affected by the transfer. He instructed the Rector of Rajamangala University of Technology Eastern, Uthenthawai Campus, to investigate student issues and find relief measures, including possible tuition fee reductions and expedited transfer processes. For faculty members, housing support will be provided if relocation issues arise.

Efforts to move Uten Thawai from its current location have been ongoing, and Mr. Yotsanan emphasized the importance of continuing these efforts with proper credit to those who initiated the plan. A meeting with the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation is planned for October 22nd to clarify actions taken so far and to finalize plans within 2-3 weeks, allowing students to return to on-site learning before the 90-day period ends. MHESI is committed to finding the best compensation measures, ensuring students and faculty can maintain access to quality education.
