Bangkok: Crowds are gathering at Wat Map Toey in Pluak Daeng district, Rayong province, as villagers and tourists alike flock to the temple to seek blessings from the statue of Ganesha and test their fortunes with a unique ping-pong ball game.
According to Thai News Agency, the temple has rapidly transformed from a serene sanctuary into a bustling hotspot, attracting visitors eager to experience the rumored blessings of the Ganesha statue. The statue, known for its supposed power to grant wishes, has gained widespread attention both locally and on social media platforms, leading to an influx of devotees.
Upon arrival, visitors are greeted by the temple's striking pavilion, dominated by a nearly 4-meter tall pink stucco statue of Ganesha. Inside, a large brass statue of the deity is enshrined, offering an opportunity for worshippers to pray for personal blessings. The temple, once quiet, began to draw crowds around 4-5 years ago, after the pavilion's construction, when reports of fulfilled wishes began circulating, further amplified by shared videos online.
A popular attraction at the temple is the chance to shake money and gold jars, hoping to draw a ping-pong ball that might reveal lucky numbers for the lottery. As the lottery draw dates on the 1st and 16th of each month approach, queues to participate grow significantly. The jars, marked with images of Lord Ganesha, are in constant use, with visitors eagerly seeking numbers that they believe will bring them good fortune.
This surge in interest highlights the powerful role of faith in transforming Wat Map Toey from a quiet temple into a lively center of hope and anticipation, as individuals from all walks of life come to try their luck and seek divine blessings.
