Double-Decker Bus Skids Into Ditch Amid Heavy Rain in Nakhon Ratchasima

Nakhon ratchasima: A double-decker bus skidded and fell into a ditch in the median during a summer storm in Nakhon Ratchasima, causing alarm among passengers who sustained minor bruises.

According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred at 7:45 PM when a tour bus lost control and skidded off the road into the median of the Nakhon Ratchasima bypass, near the Phutthatham 31 Foundation in Nong Krathum Subdistrict, Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima District. The heavy rain during the storm created challenging driving conditions, leading to the accident. Rescue volunteers were swiftly dispatched to manage traffic, prevent further incidents, and inspect the bus, which had Surin license plates. The bus's front was submerged in the median, but fortunately, none of the 53 passengers sustained serious injuries.

The bus driver explained that he was en route from Surin to Nakhon Nayok when heavy rain began as he entered the Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima district. Despite the rain easing in some areas, the road remained waterlogged and muddy, causing the bus to lose control and skid off the road. The driver expressed relief that the vehicle did not overturn, preventing a more severe accident.

Police in Pho Klang coordinated with rescue workers to evacuate the passengers safely and move them to a secure waiting area. This allowed officers to inspect and document the scene and condition of the vehicle. A tow truck is slated to recover the bus from the median. Authorities will continue to investigate the exact cause of the accident, considering factors such as road conditions, vehicle maintenance, and driver fitness.
