Bangkok: The Ministry of Education will propose school safety measures to the Cabinet tomorrow, preparing to elevate it to a national agenda. Yotsanan revealed that the Ministry of Education is preparing to propose to the Cabinet tomorrow measures for school safety and psychological support, aiming to elevate it to a national agenda. According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Yotsanu Wongsawat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, announced plans for school safety measures following a shooting incident at Thepsirin School in Nonthaburi. Mr. Prasert Chantharawongthong, Minister of Education, will present six national school safety measures at the Cabinet meeting on August 11th. The measures will be open for additional input from other ministries to guide their implementation. Initial actions were taken in various schools on August 8th, and consultations with the Secretary-General of the Royal College of Psychiatrists of Thailand are planned to address psychological support. Mr. Yotsanan stressed the necessity of elevating the issue to a national level, considering its sensitivity and the need for comprehensive care for both students and the broader population. Mr. Yotsanan confirmed that existing measures are being followed according to procedure and emphasized the importance of all school directors adhering to the guidelines. He acknowledged the observation that pressure from teachers on students might contribute to such incidents, highlighting the need for a holistic approach. The Ministry is collaborating with the Department of Mental Health, the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, and the Royal College of Mental Health to ensure a unified strategy. Regarding an incident in Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province, involving a terminated contract foreign teacher who made threats, Mr. Yotsanan assured that the Ministry of Education is addressing the issue. He underscored the importance of safety for both school personnel and students.
