Efforts Underway to Manage Pig Carcass Disposal After Floods in Prachinburi

Prachinburi:Authorities are working swiftly to manage the disposal of pig carcasses at a flooded farm in Prachinburi, where flash floods have resulted in the drowning of approximately 2,000 pigs. The operation includes burying the carcasses and disinfecting the area, with a target to complete the process for 1,400 pigs today.

According to Thai News Agency, the Director-General of the Department of Livestock Development, Dr. Chaiwat Yotakol, visited the affected area to oversee the efforts. He coordinated with local officials, including Mr. Chanathip Khokmani, Deputy Governor of Prachinburi Province, and other local leaders, to expedite the management of the situation in Mueang Prachinburi District.

The Department of Livestock Development has deployed additional personnel and resources, including heavy machinery and flat-bottomed boats, to assist in the removal of the carcasses. They are collaborating with the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation and local agencies to ensure the process adheres to veterinary standards. Efforts include relocating live pigs from high-risk areas and burying 50 carcasses, although high water levels have posed challenges.

Officials have been instructed to follow sanitary standards in the burial process and to apply disinfectant to prevent disease and odor problems. The Department is also surveying the damage to provide assistance and compensation to affected farmers, in line with the Ministry of Finance's emergency disaster relief regulations. The operation is expected to conclude by tomorrow, barring further storm risks.
