EGAT copes with JDA-A18 gas source, gas supply halted for 16 days, no impact on electricity users

Bangkok, EGAT has prepared 5 measures to cope with the suspension of natural gas supply from the Thai-Malaysia Joint Development Area (JDA-A18) for annual maintenance from July 29 to August 13, 2024, confirming that it will not affect electricity usage in the South. Mr. Nattawut Pholprasert, Deputy Governor of Transmission System, Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), revealed that the natural gas source in the Joint Development Area of ??Thailand-Malaysia or JDA-A18 of PTT Public Company Limited is scheduled for annual maintenance from July 29 to August 13, 2024, a total of 16 days, resulting in the inability to deliver gas to the Chana Power Plant, Songkhla Province, which is a major electricity generating source in the southern region, as usual. However, EGAT has planned 5 measures to support in order not to affect the electricity usage of the general public, including: In terms of fuel, reserve diesel at the Chana Power Plant and fuel oil at the Krabi Power Plant to be sufficient for usa ge during the gas supply shutdown period, including having a contingency plan in case maintenance is delayed. In terms of the production system, the Thep Na power plant is being prepared to operate on diesel, and other power plants in the South are being coordinated to be ready to operate electricity production and to be able to receive electricity from Malaysia immediately in the event of an emergency. In terms of transmission systems, check the transmission lines connecting the central region to the southern region, ensure that the power transmission lines and important equipment in the area are ready for use, and stop maintenance work that affects stability. In terms of personnel, a team has been prepared to closely monitor and follow the situation 24 hours a day, and to coordinate with relevant agencies to prepare to resolve the situation in the event of an emergency. For electricity users, EGAT is asking for cooperation from the business sector, industrial sector, and the public sector to jointly con serve electricity from July 29 to August 13, 2024, especially during 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., which is the period of highest electricity demand in the South. 'EGAT is ready to implement measures to support the shutdown of natural gas from the JDA-A18 source to the fullest extent and will closely monitor the situation.
