Emergency Response Center Coordinates Recovery Efforts in Hat Yai

Bangkok: The Emergency Response Center (ERC) has launched a comprehensive initiative to restore essential services in Hat Yai, with a focus on electricity, water, and communication systems, following severe flooding in the area. The ERC is working closely with various sectors to ensure rapid recovery and provide ongoing assistance to affected residents.

According to Thai News Agency, the Flood Emergency Operation Center (FOC) held its 5th meeting via electronic media, presided over by Mr. Paradorn Prisananantakul, Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office and Director of the FOC. The meeting addressed the progress of post-disaster recovery efforts, with General Natthaphong Praokaew reporting on the transition from rescue operations to rehabilitation and relief. Over the past 48 hours, the Jitasa.care system has assisted more than 18,000 people, and food and water distribution continue despite the receding water levels. A mental health clinic has also been established to support the community.

Efforts are underway to repair utility systems, with expectations for restoration by December 1, 2025. The ERC has instructed local agencies to enhance waste management by adding garbage drop-off points and employing machinery to clean designated areas. The relocation of vehicles from flooded zones is being coordinated with local police, and efforts are being made to clear traffic lanes and control crime with additional police support.

Insurance companies have dispatched tow trucks to assist with vehicle recovery, and policyholders are beginning to file claims. The Department of Land Transport is facilitating the transport of donated goods and preparing parking spaces for affected vehicles. A coordination center has been established to inspect and repair minor motorcycle damage.

In terms of infrastructure, the Department of Public Works and Town and Country Planning is setting up a Building Inspection Coordination Center to address repairs, while the Department of Skill Development is offering repair services for vehicles and electrical equipment at five service points in Songkhla Province. Animal carcass disposal is being conducted safely, and water distribution efforts are progressing, with full restoration expected within days.

Electricity restoration is at 85-86%, with key business areas nearing complete recovery. The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) are working to address remaining outages, prioritizing safety inspections where necessary.

The Royal Thai Navy is prepared to support the delivery of donated items, and the Social Security Office is promoting employment through a loan program for businesses. The NBTC is using satellite systems to maintain communication and plans to reduce service fees and install new signal towers to improve future resilience.

Overall, the coordinated efforts aim to restore normalcy to Hat Yai as swiftly as possible, ensuring the well-being of residents and the resumption of essential services.
