Fake Police Officer ‘Sergeant James’ Arrested for Extortion in Bangkok.

Bangkok: Metropolitan Police Bureau has successfully apprehended 'Sergeant James', a man impersonating a police officer, for extorting money from citizens. During the arrest, authorities recovered a 9 mm gun and 12 bullets. According to Thai News Agency, the suspect, identified as Mr. Chonlatit, posed as a member of a fictitious special task force called "Pachada" and masqueraded as a detective in the Sergeant Jae unit. He allegedly raided a Kratom shop in the Bang Mot area and extorted 3,000 baht from the victim, threatening arrest and prosecution if the money was not paid. Additionally, he demanded 500 baht per month as protection money. The authorities managed to lure him to an ice cream shop in the Talat Phlu area, where they arrested him while in possession of a 9 mm pistol. A subsequent search of his residence revealed a fake police ID card and several counterfeit uniforms. The suspect confessed with a heavy heart, claiming to be the great-grandson of Chao Phraya with a strong police lineage. Despite his family background, he admitted to neglecting his studies as a child and failing to qualify for the police exam. Nevertheless, his desire to be a police officer led him to volunteer in the field, where he learned about police operations. It was during this time that he discovered a way to extort money by disguising himself as a Metropolitan Police detective named "Sergeant James." He insisted that this was his first and only crime, which he committed out of desperation. Following his arrest, the investigation was expanded, and he was taken, along with the evidence, to Bukkhalo Police Station for further legal proceedings.
