Family of Deceased Rider Urges Fair Handling of Case Involving Government Official

Bangkok: The family of Sornarin Nakongsri, a 43-year-old delivery rider who recently passed away, is expressing concerns over the fairness of an ongoing case involving a high-ranking government official. They fear that justice might not be served due to the official's influential position.

According to Thai News Agency, the family, including Nakongsri's sister, brother, and two children, met with investigators to provide additional information and follow up on the case. They are urging the police to handle the situation impartially, especially since the official had initially offered 500,000 baht as compensation, which the family finds inadequate. The deceased rider's sister, Ms. Wiyada Nakongsri, mentioned that the opposing party visited the temple to apologize and contributed 50,000 baht towards funeral expenses. Discussions regarding further compensation are ongoing, as the family seeks more support for Nakongsri's two children.

The family has expressed skepticism over the public statements made by the other party, suggesting that the remorse shown was merely a publicity stunt. They pointed out inconsistencies in the statements and video footage, such as the claim of a driver change and assertions of sobriety during the incident. Ms. Wiyada voiced her concerns about the case being influenced by the official's status and urged the police for a fair and impartial process.

An incident occurred at the funeral where a man punched another individual, who was later confirmed as a friend of the deceased, not a family member. The assault stemmed from the friend's affection for Nakongsri, who was known for his kindness and willingness to help others. The family had previously agreed to avoid violence, acknowledging that no action could bring back their loved one. They reiterated their message to the assailant, urging him to assist as promised, highlighting the ordinary nature of their family and calling for support from those with knowledge and means.
