Fire Erupts at Suankularb Thonburi School During Online Classes

Bangkok: A fire broke out in a school building at Suankularb Thonburi School, causing damage and injuring one person with smoke inhalation. The school has since switched to an online learning format from September 7-9. According to Thai News Agency, the investigating officer from Thakhram Police Station received a report of a fire in a school building inside Suankularb Wittayalai Thonburi School, located on Kanchanaphisek Expressway Bypass Road, Thung Khru, Thakhram Subdistrict, Bang Khun Thian District. He proceeded to the scene to investigate and coordinated with firefighters for support. The fire originated in Building 1, a four-story school building, on the fourth floor, in the teachers' lounge. The room contained documents, exam cabinets, school supplies, mattresses, and teachers' wardrobes. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, preventing them from spreading. It took approximately 30 minutes to bring the fire under control. Initial reports indicate one male, Mr. Pachara, 33, a physical educati on teacher, suffered smoke inhalation and was assisted by volunteers before being taken to the hospital. Mr. Adisorn, 35, a teacher residing at the school, recounted that he received a phone call informing him of a fire inside the school. He and another colleague ran upstairs to investigate. Upon arrival, they opened the door to the room where the fire was burning and found a large amount of smoke, with flames erupting from the floor. They attempted to extinguish the fire with fire extinguishers, but were unsuccessful, so they had to wait downstairs. The fire occurred in a teachers' lounge on the 4th floor, which contained a large amount of paper documents. Investigators from Tha Kham Police Station will coordinate with forensic officers to inspect the scene tomorrow. The classrooms and school building where the fire occurred will be cordoned off pending inspection by relevant agencies. Suankularb Wittayalai Thonburi School has announced a shift to online learning for three days, September 7-9, 2026, follo wing a fire, as a safety measure in accordance with its emergency response plan.
