Bangkok: The first batch of Icranib 100, a royal-sponsored cancer medication, has arrived at the Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO) and is being prepared for distribution to patients with universal healthcare coverage nationwide.
According to Thai News Agency, the delivery of the medication follows the immeasurable graciousness of Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Walailak, Krom Phra Srisavangavadhana, President and Chairperson of the Chulabhorn Royal Academy. A total of 690,000 tablets have been donated to the National Health Security Office (NHSO) on the occasion of the Princess's 69th birthday on July 4, 2026, as part of the "Cancer Treatment Drug Project in Commemoration of Her Royal Highness's 69th Birthday."
Ms. Ploytalay Laksameesangchan, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, announced that on June 2, 2026, the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Plant under the Royal Initiative of Chulabhorn Royal Academy successfully produced and delivered the first batch of medication to the NHSO at the GPO distribution center. This center serves as the NHSO's primary distribution hub, and all warehousing and delivery operations were conducted under strict adherence to Good Distribution Practice (GDP) standards. This ensures the highest quality and safety of the medication until it reaches patients. The GPO will now oversee the distribution of Icranib 100 to healthcare facilities and hospitals nationwide according to the NHSO's plan, ensuring equitable access to modern medications for patients under the universal health coverage system.
Icranib 100 is an oral targeted cancer drug that inhibits the activity of the enzyme tyrosine kinase, suppressing the growth and spread of cancer cells. It is designed to offer effective disease control with fewer side effects compared to traditional chemotherapy. The drug can treat various types of cancer, including chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), acute myeloid leukemia with Philadelphia chromosomal positive (Ph+ ALL), gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST), and rare skin cancers (DFSP). This first-batch delivery marks a significant advancement in the Thai public health system, aligning with His Majesty's commitment to overcoming economic barriers, improving quality of life, and providing equal access to modern treatment for all Thai citizens.
