Yan ta khao: Flash floods from Khao Banthat overflowed into Yan Ta Khao Subdistrict Municipality, Trang Province. More than 1,000 households were forced to move their belongings to higher ground.
According to Thai News Agency, flash floodwaters from Khao Banthat quickly inundated the Yan Ta Khao Subdistrict Municipality in Trang Province. Over 1,000 households in the shopping area were forced to evacuate their belongings to safety. Vendors at the municipal market moved their goods from their shops and set up temporary stands in front of the municipal office. The municipal football field was opened for public parking and safety. All vehicles were banned from Worakiri Road to prevent the impact of the floodwaters and possible impacts on homes and shops. Heavy rain continued, and the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) issued SMS warnings to the public to closely monitor the flood situation.
Residents of the Old Market community say that the Yan Ta Khao market hasn’t experienced severe flooding in years, since 1975 and 1981, when the water reached the second floor of houses. The Old Market area is low-lying, so the water flooded earlier than other areas and receded more slowly than the surrounding area.
