Songkhla: Flood-hit workers in Songkhla are set to receive urgent relief measures as the Ministry of Labor launches initiatives to support affected individuals. The measures include a 300 baht per day employment program and low-interest loans to help insured persons throughout the province.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Trinuch Thienthong, Minister of Labor, and Pol. Lt. Col. Wannapong Kotcharak, Permanent Secretary, visited Songkhla Province to assess the situation. They engaged with labor agencies such as the provincial labor office, employment agency, skill development agency, labor protection and welfare agency, and social security agency to address concerns and streamline procedures. The “Five Tigers of Labor” have been directed to provide immediate assistance, ensuring aid reaches those impacted by the floods swiftly.
The Ministry of Labor has rolled out several emergency measures, including a 300 baht per day job program for up to 10 days for 4,000 people. Low-interest loans are available through the Labor Fund for home repairs and occupational rehabilitation, alongside a loan from the Safety Fund for businesses with damaged machinery or equipment. Relief measures also extend to employees facing unemployment due to the natural disaster, offering a 50% wage cut for six months and a 50,000 baht funeral allowance for Section 33 insured persons. Additionally, repair centers for motorcycles and electrical appliances are being opened to alleviate the public’s burden.
In Songkhla Province, 2,400 individuals will be hired urgently across 16 districts and 120 sub-districts. The initiative’s total budget amounts to 3.6 million baht, providing a daily wage of 300 baht for an initial five days, resulting in an income of 1,500 baht per person. The floods have affected all 16 districts and 127 sub-districts in Songkhla, leading to damage in over 10,045 businesses. The calamity has impacted 730,599 insured persons and resulted in the death of 5 insured individuals.
