Nan: Residents in downtown Nan began cleaning up flood-damaged homes and businesses as water levels eased on Friday, while those in Pua district faced severe destruction and awaited emergency assistance.
According to Thai News Agency, floodwaters from the Nan River, which peaked at 5.56 meters and breached flood barriers, started receding across parts of the provincial seat. In commercial areas, shopkeepers cleared debris and mud to resume business operations.
However, low-lying areas such as the Phumin-Tha Li community remained submerged under more than a meter of water. Hundreds of households were left without electricity and running water, relying on military and rescue teams for food, drinking water, and boat transport.
"We save money to move forward, but every flood sets us back again. It feels terrible," said Nithi-amphai Tharak, a local resident affected by flooding for the third consecutive year.
In Pua district, flash floods left hundreds of homes covered in mud and submerged vehicles across Ban Rong village. Local resident Apichai Tankura said his family lost nearly all essential household items and two vehicles in the torrents.
Deputy Interior Minister Jeseth Thaiseth visited Pua district to inspect relief operations, coordinating with local officials to deploy medical teams for vulnerable residents, including the elderly and injured.
