Ratchaburi: The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has found the former director of the Ratchaburi Right Bank Water Supply and Maintenance Project guilty.
According to Thai News Agency, the NACC has resolved to indict Mr. Kanit Chinwong, who was the Director of the Ratchaburi Right Bank Water Supply and Maintenance Project, Office of the 13th Royal Irrigation Department, for amassing wealth amounting to 14,050,000 baht, which he could not account for through his declared income sources.
The investigation, which encompassed the years between 2019 and 2024, revealed that Mr. Kanit Chinwong’s income from government service, as reported in his personal income tax returns between 2017 and 2022, ranged between 329,728 and 806,614 baht per year. Despite having no other reported occupation, in 2023, he possessed savings bonds from the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives, with the source of funds totaling 14,050,000 baht remaining unverified.
The NACC has proceeded by sending the report, investigation transcript, documents, evidence, and opinions to the Attorney General. The Attorney General is tasked with submitting a petition to the court with jurisdiction over the case, requesting that the court order the forfeiture of the unusually acquired assets to the state. The superior will be notified to order dismissal within 60 days, which aligns with the provisions of the Organic Act on Prevention and Suppression of Corruption B.E. 2561, Section 122.
Should the NACC face challenges in reclaiming all or part of the assets identified as unusually wealthy, the court may be petitioned to enforce the return of other assets of the accused within a decade, as stipulated by Section 125 of the 2018 Organic Act on Prevention and Suppression of Corruption.
