French Man Arrested for Airport Theft Using Clever Ruse

Bangkok: Don Mueang Police Station officers arrested a 35-year-old French man for theft at the airport. CCTV footage is used to identify him. Investigators from Don Mueang Police Station arrested Mr. David, a 35-year-old Frenchman, a suspect wanted on a warrant for nighttime airport theft. He was arrested in front of a hotel on Sukhumvit Soi 97, Phra Khanong District, Bangkok.

According to Thai News Agency, investigators found CCTV footage showing Mr. David pretending to be a passenger, carrying a backpack into Don Mueang Airport and walking around to various locations. When he saw someone leaving their belongings or bags, he would go and retrieve his own bag nearby. When the opportunity arose, he would grab the victim’s belongings or bags, carry them, and walk away from the scene to catch the train. The stolen property was sold at a secondhand shop. Since he was a foreigner, the shop didn’t suspect anything. When he received the money, he would exchange it for euros and deposit it into his own account for spending.
