From Stray Dog to New Member of the Family

Bangkok: Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is taking significant steps to upgrade the Bangkok Dog Control Center (Prawet) into a "Friendly and Standardized Animal Shelter," aiming to connect homeless animals with prospective adopters.

According to Thai News Agency, the BMA recently invited media representatives to the Bangkok Dog Control Center (Prawet) to witness its operations, promoting responsible pet care and encouraging the public to adopt stray dogs and cats. Stray animals present a considerable challenge in large cities, affecting residents' quality of life, community safety, and animal welfare. The BMA is committed to improving the management of stray animals, transitioning from control and confinement to care, rehabilitation, and adoption opportunities.

The transformation of the Dog Control Center (Prawet) into a "friendly and standardized animal shelter" exemplifies this change, serving as a bridge between homeless animals and those seeking adoption. For stray dogs, a home provides love, safety, food, and healthcare. Bangkok has collaborated with various agencies to promote adoption programs, successfully placing hundreds of dogs and cats in new families.

Adoption not only changes the life of an animal but also frees up space in shelters for other strays. It reduces the number of stray animals and offers abandoned animals a chance to become part of a family. However, a sustainable solution to the stray animal problem requires preventing further abandonment, which the city addresses through comprehensive management.

The initiative includes campaigns against pet abandonment and promotes responsible ownership. Midstream efforts involve sterilization to prevent unwanted reproduction, while downstream efforts focus on caring for, rehabilitating, and finding new homes for animals entering shelters.

The event also featured "Gohang," a stray dog ??adopted and given a new life, to inspire pet adoption. Gohang has been microchipped and registered with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, embodying the success of the adoption initiative.
