Government Orders Flags at Half-Mast for Princess Bajrakitiyabha’s Passing

Bangkok: The government has mandated that flags at all government buildings be flown at half-mast for 15 days in honor of Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha's passing. The Cabinet has expressed profound respect in commemorating Princess Bajrakitiyabha, instructing relevant agencies to conduct ceremonies with adherence to ancient royal traditions.

According to Thai News Agency, following a Cabinet meeting, spokesperson Ms. Rachada Thanadirek announced the resolution passed after the Royal Household's statement confirmed the princess's demise. The Prime Minister led the Cabinet in a moment of silence, paying tribute to Princess Bajrakitiyabha's graciousness.

All relevant agencies have been directed to meticulously prepare and execute the royal funeral ceremony, ensuring it aligns with traditional royal customs. Flags at government offices, state enterprises, and educational institutions will be lowered to half-mast for 15 days starting June 12, 2026. Government officials and personnel are to observe a 15-day mourning period, with the public encouraged to act appropriately.

The spokesperson revealed further directives from the Cabinet meeting, including the establishment of a Royal Funeral Ceremony Committee, chaired by the Prime Minister, and the involvement of the Royal Family as advisors. Various committees will be appointed to oversee the ceremony's management, crematorium construction, and associated logistics.

The Ministry of Culture is tasked with designing the ceremony format and constructing the royal crematorium. Meanwhile, the Cabinet Secretariat will organize attendance schedules for Cabinet members at the funeral rites. The Ministry of Interior and Bangkok Metropolitan Administration will facilitate public participation in homage activities.

The Public Relations Department is responsible for continuously disseminating information regarding the royal activities of Princess Bajrakitiyabha, coordinating with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for English translations.
