Bangkok: The government is actively working to resolve the longstanding land dispute in Thap Lan by meticulously verifying land ownership on a plot-by-plot basis. This initiative aims to differentiate between villagers and investors while ensuring adherence to the law and protection of forested areas.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Lalida Periswiwatana, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, announced that the government, led by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, is committed to addressing the land dispute at Thap Lan. The government is focused on delivering justice to citizens and conserving natural resources, working within the legal framework and relying on factual information. Importantly, the government is also encouraging participation from all relevant sectors in formulating a resolution.
Ms. Lalida reported that Mr. Suchart Chomklin, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, provided an update following the 9th meeting of the House of Representatives' Committee on Land, Natural Resources, and Environment. During the meeting, parties involved exchanged information, suggestions, and concerns, contributing to the development of solutions based on facts and laws. The collaborative approach was well-received and understood by all stakeholders.
The resolution strategy involves a thorough and transparent verification process for land ownership rights, distinguishing legitimate landowners and users from those illegally encroaching on forest land. The government emphasizes that all measures will be legally and evidentially grounded to ensure fairness for those affected, while preserving the country's natural resources.
Ms. Lalida further noted that the meeting highlighted the specificity of the Thap Lan area, which requires a tailored approach due to its unique historical and factual context. The spokesperson reiterated the government's commitment to pursuing legal actions against illegal encroachments strictly in accordance with the judicial process.
"The government believes that resolving the Thap Lan land issue necessitates balancing the rights of affected citizens with the conservation of forests. This collaborative effort is vital for fostering mutual understanding and lays the groundwork for sustainable natural resource management, allowing citizens to coexist with the forest under the principles of law, justice, and national interest," Ms. Lalida stated.
