Government Warns Against Fraudulent Messages Claiming AMLO Involvement in Refunds

Bangkok: Warning: Do not believe social media messages that trick you into registering for a refund. The government reiterated that the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) has no system to protect rights on Facebook, TikTok, and Line. It warned against believing messages on social media inviting people to register for a refund and recommended three legitimate channels for registering for a refund.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Ayrin Phanrit, Deputy Government Spokesperson, revealed that regarding the dissemination of a video clip and message on various social media channels falsely claiming to be from the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO), stating, “AMLO seizes assets of a call center gang and is expediting the return of assets to victims. Prepare evidence and register.” The public is being urged to submit a complaint via Facebook and add them as friends on Line. The public is urged not to fall for scams and to refrain from contacting or providing personal information to scammers. The AMLO confirms it has no connection to the solicitation messages and urges people to refrain from following or sharing information, as this could cause damage to those who believe it.

The Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) announced the results of its transaction committee meeting. The committee has taken action against 2,554 assets related to drugs, fraud, fraud in the normal course of business, and online gambling, totaling 89 cases, with assets valued at over 4.73 billion baht. Officials have been assigned to investigate assets in 54 cases.

For citizens who wish to submit a request for protection of the rights of victims, the AMLO has three channels for submitting requests: Submit in person at the AMLO office, submit by registered mail to the AMLO office, or submit through electronic channels as specified by the AMLO office (not social media).
