Governor Chatchart Restructures Bangkok Administration, Assigns Responsibilities to Deputies

Bangkok: Governor Chatchart Sittipunt has initiated a significant reorganization within the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), distributing responsibilities among four deputy governors to enhance governance and accelerate problem-solving across the city.

According to Thai News Agency, the restructuring involves the delegation of authority to Deputy Governors Wisanu Thrapsompol, Thawida Kamolwech, Shanon Wangsaengboon, and Pornprom Na.S. Wikitseth. This move is designed to ensure efficient management and facilitate the swift implementation of policies aligned with the missions of the respective agencies. Under Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Order No. 1882/2569, signed by Governor Chatchart, the deputies are empowered to issue orders and perform duties on behalf of the governor, in accordance with Sections 55 and 81 of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Act B.E. 2528 (1985), effective from July 9, 2026.

Each deputy governor has been assigned specific roles. Mr. Wisanu Thrapsompol will oversee the Department of Public Works, Drainage Department, and several other agencies, while Ms. Thawida Kamolwech will manage offices such as the Office of Strategy and Evaluation and the Medical Department. Mr. Shanon Wangsaengboon is tasked with overseeing the Office of Education and the Bureau of Culture, Sports and Tourism, among others. Mr. Pornprom Na.S. Wikitseth will handle the Environmental Office and the Office of Municipal Affairs.

The order stipulates that if any deputy is unable to perform their duties, the next in line shall assume their responsibilities, ensuring seamless governance. Furthermore, certain significant decisions, such as policy matters and civil servant appointments, will still require the governor's consideration and approval.

This administrative overhaul aims to bolster Bangkok's ability to address urban challenges and improve the quality of life for its residents, with the new structure coming into effect on July 9, 2026.
