Hat yai: Flood relief registration for 9,000 baht in compensation was a success yesterday (December 2nd). Many people arrived at Hat Yai Municipality to collect their application documents since early morning. However, after waiting for over an hour, residents became dissatisfied and began lashing out at officials. Officials tried to explain that the municipality’s photocopiers were broken due to flooding, and thus, the officials had to print out the application documents and take them to photocopy them outside the area. This required time to travel back and forth. When the documents began to be distributed, residents began scrambling for them, leading officials to slap the table and ask everyone to remain calm.
According to Thai News Agency, the Khuan Lang Municipality’s population registry indicates that over 50,000 people are affected, not including the over 100,000 hidden population. The municipality is expediting the process of allowing residents to register for relief, using only their national ID card. Officials are also dispatched to collect registrations at their homes to ensure that all affected residents receive full relief.
Over the past two days of flood relief registration, more than 50,000 people have registered, nearly all of whom are homeowners. Employees and renters remain concerned about their documents, which have been lost in the floodwaters. They are asking the Prime Minister for assistance.
