Heartbreaking Funeral for 2-Year-Old Victim of Drunken Driving Accident

Lampang: A funeral was held for "Nong Termfan," a 2-year-old victim of a tragic drunken driving accident involving a former assistant village headman, leaving the father weeping and the critically injured mother unable to attend. The perpetrator was notably absent from the ceremony.

According to Thai News Agency, the sorrowful atmosphere at Wat Sri Kerd in Mueang District, Lampang Province, was palpable as the family and relatives gathered to mourn the loss of young Termfan. The funeral rites included the bathing of the body and Buddhist prayers, with "Father Duke" and grandparents among those in attendance. The father was visibly emotional, continuously wiping the face of his son, who lay as if merely asleep. Guests struggled to contain their tears, while "Ms. May," the mother, remained hospitalized with severe injuries, including a broken leg requiring further surgeries. The family chose to hold a single night of prayers and temporarily close the body until Ms. May can leave the hospital to say her final goodbyes. Meanwhile, the former assistant village headman responsible for the accident was absent, failing to take responsibility or offer condolences.

The tragic incident took place on June 9th on the Lampang-Ngao road. CCTV footage captured the moment when Mr. Dech, intoxicated, drove his pickup truck into a parked car, which then collided with the family of three walking by. The violent impact sent Termfan and his mother flying 15 meters into the air. The father, though physically unscathed, suffered a knee injury while rushing to aid his family. Termfan succumbed to his injuries later that night.

In response to the incident, a network of drunk driving victims gathered at the Mueang Lampang District Office, presenting flowers to Mr. Thanarat Saithap, the District Chief, and urging a thorough disciplinary investigation. Their demonstration aimed to campaign against drunk driving rather than pressuring the perpetrator, who faced questioning today. They called for strict adherence to the principle that while drinking is permissible, driving under the influence is unacceptable, as it endangers lives and futures. The district office has summoned the perpetrator for disciplinary action.
