Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has reported an increase in rainfall for the southern region, with heavy rain forecasted in several provinces including Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Ranong, Phang Nga, and Phuket. Meanwhile, residents in upper Thailand can expect rain and thunderstorms in some areas of the lower northern, lower northeastern, and eastern regions, although mornings will remain cool.
According to Thai News Agency, the forecast for the next 24 hours indicates that the southern region will see isolated heavy rain alongside increased rainfall. In contrast, upper Thailand will experience sporadic rain and thunderstorms, with mornings remaining cool. The department has advised residents in the southern region to remain vigilant due to the dangers posed by heavy and accumulated rainfall. In upper Thailand, residents should be cautious of health impacts from changing weather conditions and exercise care when traveling through fog-prone areas. There is also a warning about potential fire hazards due to dry weather conditions.
The weather changes are attributed to a high-pressure area or moderate cold air mass from China affecting the upper northern, northeastern, and South China Sea regions. This causes easterly winds to transport moisture to the lower northeastern, central, eastern, Gulf of Thailand, and southern regions. Mariners in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea are advised to exercise caution, especially in areas with thunderstorms where waves can exceed 2 meters.
The northern region will see cool to cold weather in the morning with some light rain, with temperatures ranging from 15-33 degrees Celsius. The northeastern region will also experience cool mornings, with temperatures dropping by 1-2 degrees Celsius and light rain mainly in the lower region. The central region will have cool mornings with a 20% chance of rain in certain provinces.
In the eastern region, light rain is expected in some areas, with sea waves reaching up to 2 meters in stormy areas. Southern Thailand’s east coast will see thunderstorms in 70% of the area, with heavy rain in specific provinces. The west coast will experience thunderstorms in 40% of the area, also with heavy rain in certain locations.
Bangkok and surrounding areas will encounter rain in 20% of the region, with temperatures ranging from 23-31 degrees Celsius and northeast winds of 10-20 km/h.
