Bangkok: A female traffic police officer has been commended for her heroic actions in saving twin babies during a critical emergency in a restroom, ensuring their safe transport to a hospital where both mother and children survived.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Gen. Nithithorn Chintakanon, Commander of the Education Division and head of the working group for enhancing the image of traffic police at the Traffic Management Center of the Royal Thai Police, praised the swift response and bravery of the officers involved. The officers, part of a royal initiative project, quickly assisted a woman who went into labor, ensuring the safe birth of the first twin before clearing traffic to facilitate her transport to Rajavithi Hospital for the delivery of the second twin.
The incident unfolded on July 14, 2026, at approximately 8:30 AM, when the Royal Project Traffic Radio Center received a distress call about a woman giving birth in a bathroom at a residence in Pracha Rat Bamrung Soi 9. Promptly, traffic police officers from the Royal Project responded to the scene.
Upon their arrival, the officers found that the mother had already delivered the first twin, with the umbilical cord and placenta still connected. The second twin remained in the womb. Police Sergeant Natamon Prasongsanti, a squad leader in Division 6 of the Traffic Police Bureau who had recently joined the royal initiative project, played a crucial role. Using her training from Bangkok Hospital, she and her team provided immediate assistance, ensuring the newborn's safety by cleaning and stimulating the baby until it cried for the first time.
Shortly after, an ambulance with an emergency medical team from the Narenthorn Emergency Medical Center arrived. The team cut the umbilical cord and confirmed that both the mother and the second twin were stable. Traffic police facilitated a smooth traffic flow to transport the mother and newborn to Rajavithi Hospital, where the second twin was safely delivered.
This incident showcases the preparedness and competence of traffic police officers under the Royal Project, highlighting their ability to assist in crises beyond traffic management. It emphasizes their readiness, knowledge, and coordination with emergency medical units, boosting public confidence in their capabilities.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Nithithorn Chintakanon applauded all officers involved, particularly Police Sergeant Natamon Prasongsanti, for her exceptional courage and performance, marking her as a "new star" in the force. This event underlines the evolving role of traffic police as protectors and reliable support systems for the public in critical moments.
