High-Speed Pumps Deployed to Address Flooding in Keha Rom Klao

Bangkok:Keha Rom Klao Efforts are underway to alleviate flooding in the Keha Rom Klao housing estate, with the deployment of high-speed water pumps. The plan involves directing water into the Khlong Prawet Buriram canal, which eventually flows into the Chao Phraya River. The initiative aims to improve conditions within 2-3 days, with a focus on managing garbage and polluted water to prevent health issues. Cooperation from all parties is deemed essential to tackling the situation effectively.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Worasit Liengprasit, Deputy Minister of Interior, has detailed the water drainage strategy for the area. Four high-speed pumps were transported to the Rom Klao area and installed overnight, with pumping operations set to begin depending on the water level in the Prawet Buriram Canal. The pumps will help divert water from the low-lying areas, passing through various channels before reaching the Chao Phraya River.

Mr. Worasit noted that resolving the flooding in the Rom Klao housing area may take 2-3 days longer than similar efforts at the Khlong Chan flats, depending on the canal's capacity to receive water. He also mentioned that while the focus is on Rom Klao, other smaller areas might benefit from the water pumps once the primary situation eases.

Floodwaters in Keha Rom Klao remain significant, with some areas experiencing waist to chest-deep water. Stagnant water and accumulated garbage have led to decay, necessitating urgent action from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration to manage waste and expedite water drainage to avert health hazards.

When questioned about the future procurement of large water pumps, Mr. Worasit acknowledged the relevance of the query. He also addressed a post by Associate Professor Anan Sakvoravich, which credited the drying of Khlong Chan housing to the Minister of Interior rather than the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration. Mr. Worasit emphasized that the current focus should be on collaborative efforts to resolve the flooding. He highlighted the contributions from various parties, including the BMA, the Ministry of Defense, and the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, under the guidance of the Prime Minister and Bangkok's Governor.
