Mae sot: Chaos erupted in the middle of the night as hundreds of Chinese scammers awaiting deportation rioted and attempted to escape from a detention facility near the Thai-Myanmar border. Security officials in Mae Sot district, Tak province, along with supporting agencies, responded swiftly to the disturbance.
According to Thai News Agency, the detainees, believed to be part of a scamming group, vandalized government property and destroyed CCTV cameras in their bid to escape. Officials attempted to calm the situation by using loudspeakers to make announcements in Chinese, urging the perpetrators to enter the quarantine area and remain calm. However, the detainees instead shouted demands for the Thai authorities to expedite their deportation back to China.
As negotiations failed to yield results, authorities resorted to using force, deploying water cannons from fire trucks to disperse the crowd. The situation was eventually brought under control. It was later discovered that during the chaos, two Chinese nationals engaged in a physical altercation, resulting in minor injuries.
