Nakhon ratchasima: The investigation into the alleged misconduct of Phra Maha Theeranath, the abbot of Wat Pa Phu Pha Sung, has concluded with no evidence of any violations of disciplinary rules. The findings have confirmed that the abbot did not breach any Buddhist precepts, allowing his disciples to maintain their faith in him.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Ananchai received a letter from the Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Office of Buddhism. The letter detailed the results of an investigation conducted by the Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Ecclesiastical Investigation Committee, which belongs to the Dhammayut sect. The investigation found insufficient evidence to support the allegations against Phra Maha Theeranath Akkathiro, head monk of Wat Pa Phu Pha Sung. Consequently, no disciplinary action will be taken, as there is no basis for imposing any punishment on the monk. Legally, Phra Maha Theeranath, as head of the monastic residence, is not considered a public official and does not fall under Section 147 of the Criminal Code. Mr. Ananchai also expressed concerns about the leak of investigation documents to the media, prompting an investigation by the Police Anti-Corruption Division and the National Anti-Corruption Commission to determine the source of the leak and the intent behind the complaints. He emphasized readiness to purs ue legal action if necessary.
The atmosphere at Wat Pa Phu Pha Sung in Sung Noen District remains calm, with people and tourists continuing to visit, make merit, chant, and practice meditation. Phra Maha Theeranath Akkathiro noted that the investigation was beneficial, leading to clarity, and that monastic activities continue as usual.
