Investigation into MP’s Husband’s Alleged Scam Involvement Underway

Bangkok:Pol. Gen. Ruttapol Naowarat, Minister of Justice, has addressed allegations involving Mr. Taiyang Zhang, husband of Bhumjaithai Party MP Ms. Suchada Zhangtansap, concerning scammers and online gambling activities. The Justice Minister stated that any evidence implicating Mr. Zhang should be reported for further investigation, with the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) ready to act in accordance with Thai law.

According to Thai News Agency, two main issues are currently under scrutiny: Mr. Zhang's declaration of assets and liabilities to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) and allegations tying him to scammers and online gambling websites. While requests for investigation into asset declarations have been made to the NACC, no formal complaints regarding the scams or gambling activities have yet been filed.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Ruttapol emphasized the need for evidence and encouraged the public to submit complaints if they have any. The Ministry of Justice and the DSI are prepared to take legal action if violations of Thai law are discovered. Additionally, they will collaborate with international agencies for cases involving foreign entities.

The gambling website in question is reportedly licensed in Curaçao, thus outside the jurisdiction of Thai authorities. Nevertheless, if any part of its operations is found to contravene Thai law, appropriate legal measures will be implemented.

Mr. Nattapong Ruangpanyawut, leader of the People's Party and the opposition in the House of Representatives, affirmed that the party does not shield wrongdoers, regardless of their membership status. He stressed the importance of evidence-based investigations and clarified that the party lacks the capacity to audit financial transactions like government bodies can.
