Iran Accuses US of Violating Sovereignty with New Sanctions

Tehran: Iran has accused the United States of violating the sovereignty of other nations as tensions escalate ahead of a new set of US economic sanctions set to launch on Monday. These sanctions are expected to significantly impact Iran and its major trading ally, China.

According to Thai News Agency, Esmail Bakaei, the spokesman for Iran's Foreign Ministry, declared on Saturday that the upcoming sanctions represent an attempt by the United States to exercise control over independent UN member states. Bakaei emphasized on the X platform that these measures lack any foundation in international law.

In response, US Treasury Secretary Scott Basesent is slated to host a press conference on Monday afternoon to detail what are being touted as the strictest sanctions against Iran to date. The US is also pressuring China to align with its stance. Concurrently, US President Donald Trump has issued warnings that countries aiding Iran will face significant economic repercussions. China, a major importer of Iranian oil, has advocated for diplomatic resolutions to the ongoing tensions.
