Tokyo: Japanese prosecutors have decided not to indict "Nong Thien," a 28-year-old Thai woman, for allegedly smuggling crystal methamphetamine into Japan. The Narcotics Suppression Bureau is collaborating with Japanese immigration authorities to facilitate her deportation back to Thailand.
According to Thai News Agency, the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) has confirmed that the Japanese prosecutor's office will not proceed with charges against Nong Thien. This decision follows her claims of having no knowledge of the drugs and her cooperation in providing valuable information. Consequently, the ONCB is working with Japanese immigration to expedite her return to Thailand.
Ms. Areephak Ngernbumroong, Deputy Secretary-General and spokesperson for the ONCB, disclosed that the Japanese prosecutor's office had officially dismissed the case. The focus now shifts to the Japanese Immigration Bureau, which is handling the deportation procedures for Ms. Jutathip Thongnoi, also known as "Nong Thien."
While the precise reasoning behind the prosecutor's decision remains unclear, it is speculated that Ms. Jutathip's denial of knowledge regarding the drugs and her assistance to the authorities may have influenced the outcome. Further verification of these details is anticipated.
Regarding her return to Thailand, Ms. Jutathip can now leave Japan without further legal hurdles, pending the completion of immigration documentation by Japanese authorities. Coordination with the Thai embassy and consulate is necessary to arrange her travel back to Thailand, considering the time difference of two hours between the two countries.
Moving forward, the ONCB plans to intensify efforts to investigate and apprehend those involved in drug trafficking networks. The Narcotics Suppression Division (NSD) of the Royal Thai Police will handle related cases within Thailand.
There remains uncertainty about whether Ms. Jutathip will face a travel ban or blacklisting from re-entering Japan. Official reports are awaited to clarify this aspect.
