Bangkok:Jorge Jesus, the coach of the Portuguese national team, has confirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo still has the opportunity to return to play for the national team, should he choose to do so.
According to Thai News Agency, Ronaldo's status within the team has been a subject of discussion after he was left as an unused substitute against Norway and did not start in the Nations League match against Denmark. The 41-year-old striker subsequently left the national team camp.
Jorge Jesus, who has previously coached Ronaldo at Al-Nassr, emphasized that the decision rests with Ronaldo himself. Jesus stated, "If he wants to, he will return to play for the national team." He added that discussions could occur before the next squad selection, but ultimately, Ronaldo will decide his future with the national team. Jesus commented, "Cristiano should end his time with the national team the way he wants. He is the one who decides how he wants it to be."
This situation marks the first time since 2008 that Ronaldo has been a substitute and not participated in an official match for Portugal. The national team is scheduled to play their next match at home against Denmark on November 15, 2026, followed by an away game against Wales on November 18, 2026.
