Kasper Schmeichel Announces Retirement from Football Due to Shoulder Injury

Copenhagen: Kasper Schmeichel has announced his retirement from football at the age of 39 due to a shoulder injury. Kasper Schmeichel, the 39-year-old Danish goalkeeper and son of legendary goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel, revealed through his home country's media outlet TV2 that he has decided to retire due to a serious shoulder injury that prevents him from returning to high-level football.

According to Thai News Agency, the injury occurred during the UEFA Nations League quarter-final match between Denmark and Portugal in March 2025. He continued to play despite the injury because the team had already used all their substitutions.

Kasper Schmeichel began his career with Manchester City before making a name for himself as one of the key players in Leicester City's historic roster, which won the Premier League in the 2015-16 season and the FA Cup in 2021.

In addition, he has played 120 matches for the Danish national team, participating in the 2018 and 2022 World Cups and helping the team reach the semi-finals of Euro 2020.
