Pyongyang: North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong-un, accompanied by his daughter Kim Ju Ae, recently attended the opening ceremonies of several hotels in the country’s tourist areas, highlighting economic progress ahead of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea’s summit early next year.
According to Thai News Agency, North Korea’s state news agency, KCNA, reported that five new hotels were inaugurated over the weekend in the Samjiyon tourist area, located in the northeast of the Korean Peninsula near the border with China. State media released images of Kim Jong-un visiting the luxury hotels with his daughter on Saturday.
KCNA reported that Kim Jong-un stated that these hotels were clear evidence of the rising status of the North Korean people and reflected the country’s growing potential for development. Over the past month, the North Korean leader has attended ceremonies for the opening of numerous buildings and businesses, including three regional factories just last week.
North Korea is expected to hold its first major Workers’ Party Congress in five years in early 2026 to announce a new national development plan for the next five years. Meanwhile, the state-run Rodong Sinmun newspaper urged the public to dedicate their full efforts to ensuring that key projects are completed before the party’s general assembly begins.
