Pyongyang: Kim Jong-un's sister dismissed South Korea's hopes of mending relations with North Korea as mere illusion. North Korea's state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on Tuesday that Kim Yo-jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, said South Korea's hopes of improving relations between the two countries were an impossible illusion.
According to Thai News Agency, KCNA reported, citing Kim Yo-jong, the director of North Korea's Workers' Party, that, in short, Seoul's expectations were mistaken and that South Korea's hopeful dream of restoring North-South relations would never become a reality.
Previously, an official from South Korea's Ministry of Unification, which handles relations with North Korea, told reporters that Kim Yo-jong appeared to de-escalate her statements over the weekend when she called for South Korea to investigate a drone that flew into North Korean territory.
However, in a statement released late Tuesday, Kim Yo-jong stated that South Korea had committed a serious provocation by violating North Korea's sovereignty. She also called on the South Korean government to apologize and pledge not to let similar incidents happen again.
The South Korean government of President Lee Jae-myong has consistently tried to improve relations with North Korea, but so far, his proposals have been consistently rejected by North Korea.
