Bangkok: The deputy spokesperson of the Kla Tham Party has raised concerns over the Prime Minister's decision to reopen the Xin Ke Yuan Steel Co., Ltd. factory, questioning the possible involvement of a "mystery figure" in facilitating the reopening to large capital interests.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Peerawas Somwong, deputy spokesperson of the Kla Tham Party, commented on the decision to allow Xin Ke Yuan Steel Co., Ltd. to resume operations. He criticized the government for its lack of transparency, stating that merely referencing documents is not an adequate response. He emphasized that the potential risk of reopening the factory extends to the entire nation. Mr. Peerawas questioned whether the factory's steel truly met required standards or if the approval was simply a bureaucratic formality. He also raised concerns about the lack of public clarification to dispel doubts, asking the Prime Minister to address who inspected and certified the factory, and if independent experts were involved in the process.
Mr. Peerawas highlighted the critical role of steel as a building material in various structures, stressing that substandard steel could endanger public safety. He criticized the government's use of the term "meets the criteria" as a means to obscure issues rather than address them. He called for full disclosure of test results and urged the government to allow independent experts to validate the safety of the steel. He stressed that the Prime Minister must clarify whether the deregulation was a result of professional and lawful processes or if it was influenced by powerful groups.
The opposition party underscored that it does not oppose businesses operating within the law, but it cannot allow public safety to be compromised for the benefit of large capital interests. They emphasized the need for accountability and warned against a double standard in law enforcement, where the poor face meticulous scrutiny while large corporations benefit from leniency. The Kla Tham Party pledged to continue questioning the Xin Ke Yuan case until all doubts are resolved. They stated that the public deserves transparency and accountability, and the government must address who is behind the deregulation to restore public trust.
