Koravee Outlines No-Confidence Motion Timeline Without Ministerial Protection

Bangkok:"Koravee" has outlined two potential timelines for the upcoming no-confidence motion, stating that the decision awaits discussions with the three-party whips. Notably, there will be no bodyguards provided for the ministers during this period.

According to Thai News Agency, the government's chief whip has detailed the framework for the no-confidence debate, indicating that the vote is scheduled to take place on either December 10th or 11th. This will be determined following discussions with the whips from all three parties this week. The chief whip has also challenged the opposition to present substantial evidence, discouraging the debate from turning into mere entertainment.

Mr. Koravee Prisnanantakul, serving as both an MP for Ang Thong Province and the Chairman of the Government Coalition Coordination Committee, has stated that the government is coordinating with the Speaker of the House to finalize the debate dates. These discussions aim to confirm whether the debate will occur from December 6-9 with a vote on December 10, or from December 7-10 with a vote on December 11, avoiding weekends for convenience.

In terms of the debate's schedule, parliamentary sessions are planned to run for approximately 60 hours over four days. This time is to be allocated for the opposition to pose questions and for the cabinet to respond adequately. The Kla Tham Party, which aligns with the opposition, will have its debate time deducted from the opposition's allotted time.

Mr. Koravee has confirmed that there will be no security team formation for ministerial protection during the debate. He emphasized the government's readiness to address accusations and the importance of maintaining the debate within parliamentary rules, especially when accusations extend beyond the cabinet's scope.

The Prime Minister has expressed readiness for the debate, having prepared with the Cabinet to respond to accusations. The Prime Minister's schedule remains busy, with ministers directly addressing questions for efficiency and clarity.

The chief whip has urged the opposition to present clear evidence rather than baseless accusations, emphasizing the importance of rigorous scrutiny over executive actions. He also noted that discussions on future cooperation between the Kla Tham Party and the Bhumjaithai Party are premature, as decisions should be based on the debate's substance and explanations from ministers.
