Bangkok:Koravee Prisnanantakul, Chairman of the Government Coalition Coordination Committee in the House of Representatives, has announced plans to hold discussions with the whips of all three parties to finalize the dates for the upcoming no-confidence debate. He anticipates a four-day debate with a vote scheduled for either December 10th or 11th.
According to Thai News Agency, Koravee stated that the Prime Minister and Cabinet are ready to provide explanations in Parliament starting December 6th. A meeting of the three-party whips is expected this week to determine whether the debate will occur from December 6th to 9th or December 7th to 10th. The vote is tentatively set for December 10th or 11th, but this will be finalized after consultations with the opposition and consideration of potential scheduling conflicts.
Koravee emphasized the importance of the no-confidence debate for holding the government accountable. He urged the opposition to use the platform to present clear evidence of corruption rather than resorting to baseless accusations. The debate is expected to run from 900 AM to midnight each day, totaling approximately 60 hours over four days. Time allocation will be discussed to ensure both the opposition and the Cabinet have adequate opportunity to present their cases.
Regarding the participation of the Kla Tham Party, Koravee confirmed that as an opposition party, they have the right to debate. He also noted that the opposition is expected to respect the speaking time allocated to all parties involved.
Koravee addressed concerns about potential protests during the debate, stating that the government is prepared for accusations as long as they adhere to parliamentary regulations. He confirmed that the Prime Minister is ready to answer questions and has coordinated his schedule to attend the debate if possible. The possibility of delegating responses to ministers with specific expertise was also mentioned.
Koravee concluded by highlighting the importance of rigorous scrutiny during the debate, inviting the opposition to present evidence-based accusations to demonstrate substantive oversight of the administration.
